The VUE5 process started a few years ago, when I uncovered a vintage standup electric keyboard in my parents garage. The Quest QP6100 Piano Plus. Battered & dusty, I tracked down a universal power cord at a local Radioshack, and brought it to my then-apartment in west Harlem. So began what’s become an ongoing creative process.
Fast forward a few years, I’ve been ‘making beats’ / working on songs with no agenda other than to fuel this desire to create, and [ultimately] share with others who are interested to listen. In that time, we’ve also formed a band — VUE5. A trio featuring keys/vocals (@zconnett), guitar (@ianrockmore), and drums (@jacknieman88), we performed our 1st show for a small crew of special friends earlier this winter in Westhampton Beach. Some pics of that fun night below, and there should be some similarly cool stuff out of VUE5 in 2019.
During this time, I’ve also looked for a sense of purpose behind VUE5. Core values of this ‘brand’ or ‘movement’ — whatever it can be called at this stage. And while it maybe has something to do with the atmospheric, ethereal vibes we’re going for in the music, I kept coming back to this miracle planet we inhibit. Nature is essential and beautiful, even in it’s darker forms and urban manifestations. For me, nature serves as great inspiration, and I’m sure the same can be said for many creative projects throughout time.
There are many opinions about the digital age we live in, that is, whether the amazing technology at our fingertips is doing more good than bad to our civilization. In regards to nature, there’s plastic in our oceans, CO2 emissions in our air, climate change, habitat loss. The list goes on, and it’s scary to say the least. But with the platforms we now have for sharing content and information, I’ve discovered many organizations doing an inspirational job of giving back to the world that we take from. Three of which VUE5 will support through any proceeds that may be generated going forward (someone say merch in 2019?!):
Sea Legacy (@sealegacy)
The Lonely Whale (@lonelywhale)
Care For Wild (@careforwild)
Whether through amazing photography of wild environments bringing awareness to key issues, movements to cut back on harmful materials, or assisting severely injured animals, these organizations are all about giving back to environments that cannot speak for themselves. If you read the last post, you’ll get a better sense of the connection :)
So while I hope that VUE5 can bring some very enjoyable music to people’s ears this year and into the future, we will also try to support those who are giving back in a huge way, and just maybe/hopefully, we can be similarly impactful one day.
Stay tuned, and thanks for listening.
